Edgar S. Bordes, Jr., while surrounded by his family, died on Sunday, October 9, 2022, from complications of a fall. He was born on April 9, 1939 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Edgar was the beloved husband of Margaret Merlene Bordes; loving father of Evan S. Bordes (Sonyia) and Dionne Bordes Rabalais (Toby); son of the late Edgar S. Bordes, Sr. and Theo Chalona Bordes; brother of Chalon Bordes Carney and Gary Bordes (Gayle); and grandson of the late Charles and Marie Bordes and Henry and Henrietta Chalona. He is survived by his loving wife, children, sister, brother, sister-in-law, his Goddaughter, Courtney Bordes Goodbee, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, all whom he loved very much.
Edgar graduated from De La Salle High School, LSU with a BS degree in Entomology-Zoology, and earned a Master’s degree in public health administration from Tulane University. He retired from New Orleans Mosquito Control and Termite Board, where he served as director for 20 years. He developed a patent for a “tension adjustable tamper resistant termite bait cover”, which revolutionized the way termites are eradicated in New Orleans, as well as worldwide. He served on several termite and pest control boards and as a consultant to the New Orleans Hilton Convention Center, The Rivergate Exhibition Center, the New Orleans Hilton Riverside and Towers, and the Gulf States Research Center.
Edgar was a past member of the Sierra Club, Rotary International, Entomological Society of America, the Diamond Club of New Orleans, and many other organizations.
During the 1970’s, he was actively involved with Lakeshore Playground and was instrumental in the construction of the concession stand and batting cages. He enjoyed playing softball there for many years and made many wonderful friends.
He was a congenial person who had many friends and enjoyed discussing history, politics, sports, and his many inventive ideas with them. He loved his family and wanted only the best for them. He was well loved and will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 12:00PM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00AM.
